Free Fellows League Series

FROM THE AUTHOR’S WEBSITE “On this the seventh day of January in the year of Our Lord 1793, we, the sons and heirs to the oldest families of England and Scotland, do found and charter our own Free Fellows League. The League is dedicated to the proposition that sons and heirs to great titles and fortunes, who are duty-bound to marry in order to beget future sons and heirs, should be allowed to avoid the inevitable leg-shackling to a female for as long as possible…

Book One: BARELY A BRIDE – Griffin’s Story

And when Griffin returns from the Spanish Peninsula a national hero, he wants nothing more than to be left alone to forget the horrors of war. Book Two: MERELY THE GROOM – Colin’s story
Colin McElreath, twenty-seventh Viscount Grantham, was about to become a very wealthy man and his new solvency had only cost him his good name, his title, his future, and his freedom. He had sold his soul to the devil. An English devil. A ruthless merchant devil. Life, as he knew it, was over. Colin was relinquishing his Free Fellow status, sealing his fate for cash because duty required it. Because he had sworn to protect the Free Fellows League at all costs, because his father had gambled away a fortune, and because the newly created Baron Davies urgently required a respectable son-in-law for his disgraced daughter. Colin didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry at the irony. After a lifetime of avoiding society misses, he was about to marry one. His betrothed was damaged goods, but her good name and her place in society were safe. Miss Gillian Davies was about to become a blushing bride. He was merely the groom…

Book Three: HARDLY A HUSBAND – Jarrod’s story

The daughter of the late rector of the church in the village of Helford Green has lost her father and her home and is about to be forced into marriage to a man she detests. The only man who can help her is the mighty Marquess of Shepherdston…Although Sarah has loved Jarrod Shepherdston since she met him at the age of five, she’s under no illusions. As an innocent, she knows she’s no match for the man who has sworn never to marry. Jarrod Shepherdston is hardly husband material, but he might just make an excellent first lover for a girl determined to become a famous courtesan…

Book Four: TRULY A WIFE – Daniel Sussex’s story
Daniel, ninth Duke of Sussex, is not afraid of responsibility. He’s had more than his share of duty and responsibility since he became the ninth duke. He’s not afraid of danger. He’s faced many dangerous and deadly moments since he became a member of the secret Free Fellows League. But he’s terribly afraid of losing his heart…For who can he trust to keep it safe? The ton’s perennial bridesmaid, Miranda, Marchioness St. Germaine, doesn’t need a husband in order to gain wealth and a title. Miranda is a peeress in her own right. A peeress wildly in love with the ninth Duke of Sussex and whose fondest dream is to become his wife. When he unexpectedly proposes marriage, how can she refuse? In one bold, impulsively romantic moment, Miranda weds Daniel and attains her heart’s desire…But there is no opportunity to celebrate. The marriage is legal. But it’s also a secret. And the next morning, Miranda realizes Daniel has no memory of it…How do you teach a man wary of a marriage trap to trust? How do you teach him to believe in love? And how do you protect your heart while you’re doing it? When he believes he’s a bachelor? And you’re truly his wife…

Book Five: CLEARLY A COUPLE (Talk of the Ton anthology) – Jonathan’s story
When Jonathan, Earl of Barclay, volunteers to collect a parcel for his friend and Free Fellow colleague on his return from a mission, he never dreams that collecting it will turn out to be a matter of life or death. When the handsome gentleman appears at the door of Plum Cottage to collect a parcel, Lady India Burton’s prayers are answered. Her hero has ridden to the rescue. But it doesn’t take long for India to realize her hero has no idea that she is the parcel — or that claiming her could cost him his life. Jonathan finds love in an unexpected way when passion, politics, and scandal make him and Lady India Burton the talk of the ton…”

FROM THE BOOK FAERY REVIEWS…Rebecca Hagan Lee’s Free Fellow League Series was an enjoyable and fast read. Going back in time is something I love to do and the Regency period is one of my favorite. So many things were considered “inappropriate” compared to today’s time, the mannerisms of the sexes were different, homes seemed so grand with the many servants, nightly “galas” of dancing and socializing, and of course the beautiful dresses of the time. I enjoyed this series of passion and political suspense based in the Regency period. Prior to reading the story of Daniel and Miranda, I thought for SURE they would be my favorite couple and couldn’t of course wait to get to their book as I enjoyed their constant bantering of each other through the other stories. I just knew they’d have a passionate love for each other beneath the surface. I just think it lacked what I expected because I felt Miranda surrendered too much within this story. In the end I enjoyed Jarrod and Sarah’s story more. Probably because like them, my own husband and I have known each other since we were children. Plus who wouldn’t love the thrill of someone who would duel over you!
